Wright Motorsports made their podium ambitions reality at Sebring International Raceway as they secured third place in the twelve-hour endurance classic. The team delivered a standout performance in the second round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, moving up into the top three in a last lap push to the podium.
Starting from seventh on the grid, Tom Sargent took the green flag on board the No. 120 Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo and gained a couple of positions in his opening stint. Adam Adelson took over driving duties soon thereafter and quickly settled into a strong rhythm, consistently running in fourth position as he capitalized on the car’s pace.
As the race wore on, Wright Motorsports remained firmly in contention despite full course cautions that emerged throughout, cycling between seventh and fourth. In one of the race’s most pivotal sequences, Ilott surged into second and briefly took over the race lead. A subsequent pit stop dropped the car back to fourth, but the team remained firmly in the fight as the race continued under green.
A drive-through penalty threatened to derail the team’s podium hopes in the last few hours, but the team remained undeterred as Sargent and Ilott exchanged turns behind the wheel in the night portion and they remained in the top five. With Ilott going on to complete the final stint, he seized an opportunity to close the gap to the cars ahead as a late-stage full course caution emerged. As green flag conditions resumed with under 20 minutes remaining, Ilott gained crucial positions and was within striking distance to the podium. In a sprint to the line on the last lap, he delivered one last charge to secure third place.
The podium result marks a strong rebound performance for Wright Motorsports in one of the most grueling races on the IMSA calendar, and saw Adelson notch his second podium finish in the event in recent years.
“ This result feels absolutely incredible, especially with how poorly the year started for us,” Adam Adelson shared. “I'm super proud of the way I drove. Callum did a stellar job at the closing stages to give us the opportunity to fight for that podium, and Tom did incredibly to put us in a place where we could compete early on. The team works so hard and we have some of the best guys worldwide in racing, and to not have what we would consider a good result for ourselves in so long makes this feel even more rewarding. This is probably the best feeling I've ever had for a third place finish.”
“ What a wild race,” exclaimed Callum Ilott. “We had a bit of a rough restart towards the end and dropped back a couple of positions, but we pulled our way through. The car came alive in the night, but at the same time we were carrying a ton of damage, but I guess a couple of other teams were as well. I was able to fight my way back with a couple of good moves into Turn 7 and I ultimately capitalized on some other rough racing on the final lap, which luckily moved us up to P3. It was a really good effort from our side, we kept everything clean.”
“ To be honest, it's a little bit unreal at the moment,” expressed Tom Sargent. “Callum drove an awesome last stint, but Adam drove amazingly all day–he put in some proper times and so did Callum. I think we deserve this after such a disappointing outcome in Daytona, which was through no fault of our own. We bounced back and we didn’t make any mistakes, and it shows in our result.”
Wright Motorsports will return to the track for the third round of the 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and the first sprint race of the season, the Grand Prix of Long Beach, on April 17th and 18th, 2026.
