Wright Motorsports returns to IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competition this weekend at Virginia International Raceway for the Michelin GT Challenge, where the Ohio-based team will take on the sprint round event featuring exclusively GTD and GTD PRO machinery.
The No. 120 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) will return to its regular two-driver configuration, with full-season drivers Adam Adelson and Callum Ilott sharing driving duties for the two-hour, 40-minute contest.
For Wright Motorsports, the event provides an opportunity to turn the page after an untimely conclusion to the Road America endurance race, where they showed great promise and pace. The team has demonstrated their strength in longer-format races, including podium finishes at both Sebring and Watkins Glen. Now, they will look to translate that speed and execution into a strong result over the shorter sprint format at VIR.
“I’m always looking forward to the race at VIR,” said Adam Adelson. “It’s my favorite track in the world. I also adore the fact that it gives the chance for the GTD cars to shine; it’s such an amazing class of racing and deserves to be in the spotlight in such an amazing series. I’m hoping we can build on our momentum of having good pace and strategy, and hopefully luck goes our way this time.”
“I got my first experience driving at VIR last week during a test,” added Callum Ilott.
“Adam had been raving about it for many years and I understand why now. It is a very impressive track to drive in the Porsche 911 GT3 R with a lot of challenging and high-commitment corners. I think it's going to be a very exciting weekend. Our test there was very positive, and I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of pace we have. I believe this is going to be a fun race and I want to see what we can get out of it.”
Wright Motorsports will take to the track at Virginia International Raceway starting on Friday, August 21, for Practice 1, with Practice 2 and Qualifying set for Saturday. The Michelin GT Challenge at VIR race will be held on Sunday starting at 12:10 p.m. ET and broadcast live in the United States on Peacock, with international coverage available via the IMSA YouTube channel.
