Wright Motorsports endured a difficult outing on the streets of Southern California, finishing fifteenth in the Grand Prix of Long Beach, the first sprint round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season. Despite a strong effort from full-season drivers Adam Adelson and Callum Ilott in the No. 120 Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo, the 100-minute race proved to be a challenging battle with limited opportunities to advance.
Starting from 13th on the grid, the team looked to make early gains, but the race quickly became disrupted by multiple full course yellows. An early caution after the opening laps set the tone for a stop-and-start event, with repeated interruptions preventing any consistent rhythm from developing.
Wright Motorsports executed its race strategy cleanly, with Adelson handing over the Porsche to Ilott just over an hour remaining. However, any chance to capitalize on strategy was hindered as the race returned to green with 47 minutes to go, only to be neutralized again shortly after. The frequent cautions, combined with a lack of outright pace, left the No. 120 Porsche unable to move forward through the field.
“ Honestly, it’s just a real shame that we couldn't be more competitive,” Adam Adelson expressed. “The car was really, really good. I think we extracted all the performance that there was to extract out of the Porsche, but unfortunately we just did not have nearly enough pace. Nevertheless, the team still operated really great today, and hopefully we can be more competitive at Laguna. At the end of the day, being able to race at home is always amazing. I love this track and any opportunity to drive it is always a pleasure.”
“ It was a tough day,” added Callum Ilott. “It was apparent from the beginning of the weekend that we just didn't have the pace overall and it put us in a really tricky position, to no fault of the Wright Motorsports’ group at all. The team did a great job, and the car felt amazing to drive, but the pace just wasn't there. This turned out to be a bit of a damage limitation weekend for us, but I’m excited to see what Laguna has in store.”
Wright Motorsports will return on track for the fourth round of the 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, which will be held at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca from May 1st to 3rd as the West Coast swing continues.
