Top 10 Finish for Wright Motorsports at VIRginia International Raceway

Wright Motorsports battled through the penultimate sprint round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season, the Michelin GT Challenge at VIR, to bring the No. 120 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) home in 10th place in the GTD class in the two-hour, 40-minute race.

Full-season drivers Adam Adelson and Callum Ilott started from 13th on the GTD grid, immediately making progress through the field as Adelson climbed up to 10th during the opening lap.

The race's first and only full-course caution came out on the first lap, neutralizing the field for approximately 20 minutes before the race returned to green again. Adelson briefly dropped one position while navigating a chaotic restart but quickly regained the place as he settled back into the opening stint.

With track position playing an important role around the technical and undulating 3.27-mile track, Wright Motorsports elected to keep Adelson on track one lap longer as the pit window opened before making its first stop with 1 hour and 48 minutes remaining. 

As Callum Ilott took over for his turn behind the wheel in the Porsche, he maintained position as he returned on track. With the race remaining green, opportunities to make significant gains were limited. Wright Motorsports made its final pit stop with just under one hour remaining on the clock before going on to ultimately cross the finish line in 10th, completing a challenging round at VIR while still collecting valuable championship points.

“ It was a difficult weekend for us just to finish in tenth,” said Adam Adelson. “We didn’t have the pace. We could have executed a few things better on our side, but I don't really see how we could have finished much higher. I hope we’ll be more competitive with the next round at Indianapolis coming up. This race is one to learn from, but also one to forget. Hopefully we’ll have a better outing next time.” 

“ I think as it was green flag running for almost the entire race, especially when I was in the car” added Callum Ilott. “There was no real way to make up much ground. We struggled a bit with the tires during my first stint. I think we had good pace throughout my second stint, but still conscious of the fuel saving that I had to do. We've done a good job with the car, but we can only do so much with what we've got. The pace just wasn't there this weekend overall. The team did everything as well as we could and now we just have to move on to the next one.”

Wright Motorsports will now turn its attention to the next race of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with the TireRack.com Battle On The Bricks returning to a sprint format. The penultimate round of the 2026 season is scheduled for September 18th to 20th.
