Wright Motorsports Completes Recovery Drive to Sixth Place Finish at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Wright Motorsports was faced with a challenging sprint race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, where they went on to complete a strong recovery drive to finish sixth in the TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks. 

After the GTD Qualifying session the day prior was abandoned due to inclement weather, the starting grid was decided based on team championship points. The No. 120 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) therefore took the green flag for the two-hour, forty-minute sprint race from eighth place with Adam Adelson behind the wheel. 

A full course caution emerged at the end of the opening lap, neutralizing the field early on. However, on the restart, Wright Motorsports was given a drive through penalty, which dropped the Porsche to the back of the field. The driver change was completed with one hour and forty-six minutes remaining, with Callum Ilott returning to the track in P12. With one hour to go, another full course yellow came out, bringing the field together again. Ilott regained further positions as the race returned green again. 

In the final thirty minutes, he was running in seventh place and gained another position to sixth in the closing minutes of the sprint round before going on to take the checkered flag. 

“ We came back a little bit from a difficult start,” said Callum Ilott. “We need to review, but from there, it was just a bit of a mess elsewhere on track. For example, the track sweeper was in the middle of the lane during my pit lane entry, and then there were some GTD PRO cars that spun and returned to the track in an erratic way in front of us, which ruined the momentum we had. The car felt good, we just didn’t have much opportunity to move further up.” 

Wright Motorsports now looks ahead to Petit Le Mans, the final race of the 2026 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season, at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta from September 30th to October 3rd.
