EVENT PREVIEW: Wright Motorsports VOLT Porsche Prepared to Shine at Lime Rock Park

LAKEVILLE, Conn., (July 18, 2023) – The northwest corner of Connecticut will come alive with the horsepower of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship this weekend as Lime Rock Park prepares to host Saturday’s FCP Euro Northeast Grand Prix presented by LIQUI MOLY. The Wright Motorsports No. 77 VOLT Lighting Porsche 911 GT3 R, driven by Alan Brynjolfsson and Trent Hindman, will participate in the two-hour, forty-minute race at Hindman’s home track.

Following the team’s seventh-place finish at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park two weeks ago, Wright Motorsports gained a spot on the team championship standings, now only 20 points away from the fifth-place position. With 350 points awarded for a race win and up to 35 for qualifying position, the championship points battle is still wide open for the GTD class field heading into this weekend’s event.

“We continue to improve our results every race, and we’re making progress with this new Porsche 911 GT3 R,” said Team Owner John Wright. “It’s no secret that the performance of the Porsche is well suited for a track like Lime Rock Park, so we expect to be strong here this weekend.”

Situated in the rolling hills of Connecticut, Lime Rock Park is nestled within the scenic Berkshire Mountains, providing a stunning backdrop for racing events. A natural-terrain road racing circuit with a length of 1.5 miles, the circuit is a relatively short track but features several challenging corners and elevation changes that demand precise driving skills.

As a GT-only event, Saturday’s race will be comprised of only two of the five IMSA WeatherTech classes: GT Daytona Pro (GTD PRO) and GT Daytona (GTD). The GTD class takes up the majority of the field, with 15 of the 20 entries competing in the event. With the identical vehicle performance between the two classes the opportunity for an overall win is in play for the No. 77.

The FCP Euro Northeast Grand Prix presented by LIQUI MOLY begins on Saturday, July 22 at 12:10 PM ET, airing live on Peacock and the USA Network in the United States, and IMSA.com/tvlive internationally. For more information, visit imsa.com.

DRIVER QUOTES

Alan Brynjolfsson

Historically, Lime Rock is a great track for Porsche, and also for Trent, so I am feeling good about this race. It will be my first time in a GT3 at Lime Rock but I have devoted a lot of time between CTMP and Lime Rock towards preparation so I will be ready. It’s the bull ring, short, fast lap, narrow, and difficult to pass so I expect there will be plenty of rubbin’. I’ve been lifting so I am ready to have my elbows out, on or off the track.

Trent Hindman

Lime Rock holds a special place on the calendar for me. Not only is it the closest IMSA round to home, but it’s also genuinely one of my favorite racetracks. The short-track style of racing it brings should suit us and our Wright Motorsports VOLT Lighting Porsche 911 quite well. We’ve made good progress in terms of performance during the previous round at CTMP, so I think we have a bit of momentum to take advantage of once we get on track this Friday at Lime Rock.
