Wright Motorsports Rides Wave of Momentum to the West Coast

BATAVIA, OH (September 19, 2019) – Wright Motorsports will be riding a wave of momentum to the west coast as they head to the second to final stop on the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge schedule at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Max Root and Fred Poordad will look to repeat their winning success from VIRginia International Raceway at the double-header event.

Despite prior commitments, the event will see Wright Motorsports regular, Charlie Luck, respectively off driving duties to tend to a family obligation.

Still fresh off of his breakthrough victory sweep at VIRginia International Raceway, Max Root heads to his home event second in the Platinum championship with a 58-point deflect to his main protagonist, Roman DeAngelis. While this is his first time competing at the track with IMSA, the San Diego-native and Pepperdine University sophomore has a podium and pole position to his name driving a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car in Pirelli Trophy West competition.

“I’m excited to go back to California. We’re coming off a very strong weekend at VIR and definitely have some momentum rolling that’s helped both on and off the track. I think we’re going to roll off the truck strong and carry that throughout the weekend. I love coming to Laguna so I’m really looking forward to getting on track and of course to the weather.”

After driving to a class win and overall podium at VIRginia International Raceway Poordad has all the momentum he needs for this weekend’s event. The last time Poordad competed at the circuit was also the last time one-make series visited Monterey in 2016. WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca was also the site of the Poordad’s first IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge USA start, back in 2011. The Texas native will head into the double-header just 19 points out of championship lead in the Platinum Masters category.

“Coming off of a good weekend at VIR, I’m excited to do our one West coast event,” Poordad said. “Laguna is a very technical track and will make for some exciting racing. I’m also looking forward to some cooler California weather!”
